Asian Age - May 9, 2008

According to the Charaka Samhita, 'life' itself is defined as a "combination of body, senses, mind & soul, the factor responsible for preventing decay and death, which sustains the body over time, and guides the processes of rebirth." Undoubtedly, Ayurveda is synonymous with the knowledge of life and tells one how to live a healthy life naturally.

The launch of Avalon Ayurveda, the authentic ayurvedic healing centre, marked a new era in the well-being for the people in Mussoorie. It was announced by wel-known cardiovascular and cardiothorasic surgeon and an ardent supporter of the ayurvedic medicines, Dr. Naresh Trehan. But do not confuse the Avalon ayurvedic centre with health spas, as it is not cosmetic in nature.

"Avalon Ayurveda assures a unique Himalayan healing experience with its focus on one's holistic well-being. We offer customised treatment in an environment best suited for one's holistic well-being, says Naresh Khattar, director, Avalon Ayurveda.

Situated in the pure and serene environment of Mussoorrie, the center having a capacity of 70 luxurious rooms, offers intensive treatments like Dhara, Pizhichil, Sirovasti and Panchakarma.

Sharing his personal experiences with Ayurveda, Dr. J. M. Sampath, Director Operations says, "After I got a 21-day rejuvenation programme at the age of 40, I felt young, both in terms of body & soul."

The center focuses on the prevention and benefit of healthy living. The treatment centre provides varied solutions towards true ayurvedic healing that includes facilities like steam, sauna, massages and scrubs for each patient.

Dr. Trehan says, "It is a situation of world health crisis. We should not waste time in comparing modern medicine with ayurveda, but we should take an amalgamated approach."

A patient needs to regsiter for consultation with the doctors and will be treated accordingly at the centre.

The registration can be done through their website as well. When asked about the cost of the treatment, Naresh Khatta says, The cost would be around $150 per night which includes everything."

Considering the vital role of food in the process of natural healing, the centre also offers a specialized restaurant that serves organic vegetarian cuisine along with customized diet programmes on the doctor's recommendation.

As said by Dr.Trehan, real growth is the appreciation of human capital of the country, we should hope that this new venture succeeds in leaving a mark in the field of medicine, internationally.
